Filters and Segments

Focus on a Specific Part of Your Fleet

Updated over 2 months ago

Overview

Filters make fleet management easier by allowing you to narrow down the list of machines based on criteria such as brand or category.

Segments go a step further, enabling you to organize your fleet into flexible groups defined by your own rules.

Basics

Filters and segments are accessible via the "Filter" button located at the top of the inventory or reports pages.

Filtering

To apply a filter:

  1. Select a parameter (e.g., Brand).

  2. Choose the options you’re interested in.

Example: Selecting Brand and the option Cat will display only machines from Cat.

You can apply multiple filters simultaneously to further narrow down the displayed list.

Example: Adding Category and the option Dump Truck will refine the list to show only Cat dump trucks.

Creating a Segment

Only workspace administrators can create or modify segments. If you’re not an admin, reach out to one for assistance.

To create a segment:

  1. Click "Create Segment" and define the rules (filters) for your segment. The resulting list of machines will be visible on the right.

  2. Once satisfied with the result, name your segment and save it. It will now be visible to all workspace users.

  3. You can modify the segment later if needed.

Using a Segment

When filtering a report, you can choose between applying individual filters or selecting an existing segment.

Updating a Segment

Segments are dynamic and automatically updated based on their defined rules. For example, if new equipment is added to your fleet that matches the segment's criteria, it will be included in the segment without any additional effort.

FAQ

Can I filter based on machine usage data?

No, at the moment, filters apply only to machine data (e.g., brand, model, custom fields). Usage data (e.g., idle rate > 35%) is not yet supported.

Are segments compatible with workspaces?

Yes! Although segments and workspaces may overlap in functionality, they are designed to coexist and are particularly useful for complex organizations.

Can I use segments for alerts?

Partially. Segments can help you quickly select a list of machines when creating an alert, but the list will remain static. Fully dynamic segment compatibility with alerts is planned for future updates.

What can I do if I’m not an admin?

If you’re not an admin, you can still use existing segments. For additional needs, contact an admin and request the creation of new segments that meet your requirements.
