How is the idle rate calculated?
How is the idle rate calculated?
The idle rate is a key performance indicator that reflects the proportion of time a machine spends idling compared to its total usage time. However, it may not always match the result you’d get by manually dividing total idle hours by total usage hours. Here’s why:
1. How the Idle Rate is Calculated
To ensure accuracy and consistency, the idle rate is calculated only from records that meet both of the following criteria:
Usage time is greater than 0 hours
Idle time is greater than 0 hours
Any record where either value is zero or missing is excluded from the calculation. This approach ensures the rate is based on complete and meaningful data.
2. Why It Differs from Raw Totals
Displayed totals (sum of usage and idle hours) include all records, even those with 0 hours of idling.
Idle rate calculation uses a filtered subset of records, only where both idle and usage hours are strictly greater than zero.
As a result, if you attempt to recalculate the idle rate using the displayed raw totals, you may notice a discrepancy. This is because the two calculations are based on different data sets.
